Return of Ghana International AL

Press release:

Ghana International Airlines (GIA), the national airline of the Republic of Ghana, celebrates 3 years of operations with the launch of new weekly non-stop service between Kotoka International Airport in Accra and Dusseldorf International Airport in Germany, starting on 29 November 2008.

The service will be operated once-weekly with a Boeing 757-200 aircraft configured with 16 Business Class and 153 Main Cabin seats. Passengers can stretch out and relax with generous legroom, featuring seat pitch of 55-inches in Business Class and up to 33-inches in the Main Cabin. Travellers enjoy legendary Ghanaian hospitality with gourmet meals and amenities in both classes of service, plus a generous checked baggage allowance typical of the national carrier of Ghana.

Flights will depart Accra at 1045pm on Saturday nights and arrive in Dusseldorf at 645am the next morning. The return flights leave Dusseldorf at the convenient hour of 225pm on Sunday, arriving in Accra at 825pm the same day. The flights are timed to offer convenient road and rail connections throughout Germany and the Netherlands.

“The ethnic ties between Ghana and Germany have always been strong and this flight seeks to rejuvenate and restore these links. The new business partnership between Ghana and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia makes Dusseldorf the natural choice as our first gateway into Continental Europe,” said Gifty E. Annan-Myers, Acting C.E.O. of GIA. “We also hope that our competitive fares will stimulate the growing German and Dutch tourist markets to Ghana, and encourage people to Experience It! Believe It!”

“We are looking forward to the inauguration of the route between Dusseldorf and Accra. For the first time since 2004, North Rhine-Westphalia and Ghana are directly connected again”, said Christoph Blume, CEO of Dusseldorf International Airport. Dusseldorf is, in addition to London Gatwick, the only destination in Europe that is operated by Ghana International Airlines. Blume: “This is an evidence for the economic significance of the Rhine-Ruhr region and the importance of Dusseldorf Airport.”

To celebrate the launch of the new service, GIA will be offering special introductory roundtrip fares starting at $799 from Accra and €599 from Dusseldorf, including all taxes and fees. Introductory fares are limited and other restrictions may apply.
